Karla Hoeben [1963] studied at Witte Lelie in Amsterdam and at Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, on which she graduated cum laude in the sculpture department. In the past years she showed her work at Nieuwe Vide, ABC centre for Architecture, Horizon/Verticaal and 37PK in Haarlem, Art Amsterdam and in several exhibitions at Reuten & Reuten Gallery Amsterdam/Maastricht.

Martijn Lucas Smit [1968] studied Fine Arts at Gerrit Rietveld Academy Amsterdam. He is the founding father of the experimental art space Nieuwe Vide, in which he curated dozens of exhibitions, international exchanges and festivals. Currently he is active as an artist, as well as an independant curator.

Martijn Lucas Smit and Karla Hoeben came to know eachother while organising several projects in Nieuwe Vide in the late 90’s. In 2013 the collaboration accumulated in Lucas Hoeben, a project in which the two manifest themselves as one artist.
